Dear kos et al
Hello my name is KC and I’m a Recovering Radical. (yeah, I was a Peace Activist in the 70’s). And an American. And a patriot. I know I’ve been away a long time, a long time. I’m sorry, but I just got kind of, well, busy. Ya know, life and all. Plus, well....although I never stop caring and I certainly never stopped voting against the bad guys, I did quit paying close attention a pretty long time ago. I had to. Two reasons: 1) it didn’t make any difference or have any real impact, and 2) it cost too much (time and heart, not money).
The past year has changed all that.
Obama may’ve been driving the Change Bus but dKos was instrumental in pointing people the way, passing out free tickets, making sure the bus was FULL, and all that. Markos, you told us "Leave everything on the road." We did. And it worked this time, this time the impact was felt all the way from my living room to around the world. But they hadn’t even swept up the confetti before my family was asking me, "Can we PLEASE have you back now, Mom?"
So now. I need you again, kos. "We" need you. Markos, and Front Pagers and kossacks one and all.
"Leave it all on the road" wow, that was great. It worked. A great concept and a really great slogan, a successful marketing ploy (so to speak). (Even though I kept getting it backwards!) Something for me to sort of chant to myself in my head while I was out running errands or sitting at the bus stop to pick up my kid or standing in line at the grocery store. Whatever.
We left it on the road. Now what. I’m ready. I am fired up and ready to go but HOW DO WE GET THERE from here?
I’m done...done! I tell you!... talking about Sarah the Shopper or Joe the Plumber. I’ve got my dose of shadenfreude or whatever it is and I’m so ready to be done with the battle... the hate the fighting the ugliness. And I, honest to god, can’t afford the time anymore. I can’t read every diary & all the comments with the msnbc blaring in the background. I've got to get back to my life. I HAVE to. I cannot afford the political junkie in me to maintain/take over my entire day!
I love my country and I cried and cried on Tuesday (and Wednesday and even today still, some) with the elation of winning this thing and with pride and with joy. I have real hope now for the coming era and a restoration of true leadership, common sense, respect for our Constitution, and justice. I will go out and buy a flag and I will fly it on Inaugeration Day.
I love this country and I want to.... Take It Back.
You’ve got me right where you want me.
But you only get about 30 minutes. THIRTY minutes a day. I do not have time to advise President-Elect Obama on his Cabinet picks or Michelle Obama on her attire, etc.
Hit me with your best shot. Keep me informed, keep me motivated. Point me in the right direction. Give me a new slogan. Give me a daily Kos-at-a-Glance, a daily Summary somewhere, a "place" and a time. Daily. Something. Tick tick tick thirty minutes. Okay, maybe an hour. I am fairly certain that I am not the only one here with this need.
Here’s what I intend to do, just speaking for myself, I’ll get my hands on your book and read it. I’ll figure out the best way to connect with locals and work locally think globally. What else. Any suggestions? I gotta go run out to buy groceries now. I’ll check back later.
But... let’s get started. Let’s take it back. Please?
KC
