Democrats have, for a couple of decades now, been reacting to whatever the Rs put out. It's time to get proactive. Our party stands for some really good things and in this critical election we'd better start saying so. Below is a letter I've submitted to a local newspaper. Let's try this route please.
This has been a two-year long election year. Network media couldn’t let go of the excitement, so they started the 2008 election right after the 2006 results were in. Most folks have gotten tired of it.
Now it’s getting close. Soon it will be time to get that ballot (early voting in Arkansas starts October 20th). So now’s the time to start asking some real questions and making some real decisions.
Should your parents be self-sufficient after retirement (rather than depending on you for food and medical care)? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should your money and property be protected from uncontrolled markets? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should your family have decent healthcare regardless of pre-existing conditions? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should government agencies (police, fire, Coast Guard, National Guard, FEMA, etc) assist communities in emergencies? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should America be independent of oil-producing nations? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should you and your family have clean air and water? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should your kids have safe food and toys? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should America use diplomacy first in international affairs? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Should American become the leader against global warming (rather than the biggest cause of it)? If yes, vote Democratic. If no, vote Republican.
Ask yourself – tally the answers – and vote.
