Well, this poor progressive was stuck in Atlanta on layover for a few hours, yesterday, coming back from Delaware, whilst doing a relative thing.
THANK GOD for the south and their smoking rooms! This was the 1st time I've ever been to the 'south' of the country, and boy did i have fun with just 90 minutes to do it in. Luckily I got to stick my nose in "where it don't belong" when i heard some my nice southern gentleman explaining for all to hear why we need to stay in Iraq, and kick some bootie.
So, it all started by me asking "why did we go into Iraq" and immediately i was advised that Bill Clinton caused it, with his Regime Change. Then he said because Iraq invaded Kuwait. I mentioned that was the previous war. A lady in the area said it was a vendetta for bushy's daddy. I liked her.
For the life of me, I haven't found another time the US invaded a country that hadn't invaded or threatened another nation, first. I mentioned that, too.
we went round and round for a few minutes, till i got bored of hearing him talk about the GREATEST AMERICAN ALIVE: Dick Cheney. I asked him is that the same Dick Cheney that got 5 deferments? This fine old gentleman advised me that HE had a deferment too. i could only smile. He asked what war was i was in? Due to my age that would've had to been the great war over Greneda. When i went to enlist, though, it was already over ;-) "missed it by that much".
What i did learn is that i need to have even more of my ducks in a row when i confront people on their stands re: iraq, our prez, and our veep. I am able to hold my tongue and not go over the edge, making the other party look a little looney. So, where do i find the penultimate progressive points of view? I find them here, with a little filtering they go a long way. i am a debater and can bring it with the best of them, only i am a diamond in the rough. i need some fine tuning, THEN i'll MOVE to atlanta and bring it, everyday. sounds like heaven to me.
Thanks to those that backed me up, even silently, while a dozen folks listened in to our conversation. And to Matt[?] who's living in Athens GA THANKS for giving me a good laugh about his trip to the airport bathroom . .. . i sear i'll never go in them again without wondering THANKS Senator[for now]Craig.
It probably didn't help i was wearing a tye-dyed t shirt, eh? haha So when i heard my flight called, i gave them all a "god bless" and scooted outta there.
and update: whoops. I also mentioned to everyone in the room about Friday's Black Armband Day and what it was about. ahhh the scowls from some. don't they know their time has come and gone?
