I have posted on my own blog for over two years about the breaking of the Army. Having been a soldier myself for over 9 years, I knew when the Iraq war started that we did not have enough troops. Further, I trusted the information from those who know, Shinseki and Powell, and watched as they grew increasingly disgusted by the plans the Army was putting into place.
Now, it is coming to be; The Army is broken.
Time Magazinehas a great in-depth article showing the problems with the United States Army. As I have told my readers for years now, the Army is broken and now being left for dead on the battlefield by President Bush. Generals were warned to "Beware of the 12 division strategy when you have 10 divisions" and many warned Bush that the invasion of Iraq would be a long slog fight that would require hundreds of thousands of soldiers.
Bush chose to ignore that advice. He has now destroyed the Army because of it.
Taylor Marsh calls it on on her article at the Huffington Post. Here she shows that future administrations will be required to pick up the pieces and fix this broken Army. This will cost a lot of money and ultimately tax increases for all. Imagine, our military budget will be the highest it has been, inflation adjusted, since WWII. Larger than Vietnam and Korea!
An article titled "If you surge" also outlines the problems with the Army and the current surge. In their zeal to get the "Surge" going, the Army is bypassing training for some 4,000 soldiers. Interesting that recently their were 2 friendly fire deaths.
And, if you want to read about the trials and tribulations of calling back the IRR, then you can go here and see all the postings and comments about how the Army is screwing that up as well.
Bush's defense, I am sure, will be "no one knew" and of course that is again another lie. A lot of people knew and a lot of people warned him. He just decided to ignore them or fire them.
This rests squarely on the shoulders of Bush and the Republicans. I hope they sleep well at night knowing they are directly responsible for killing kids and destroying a great American institution, The United States Army.
