Check out this layout from Rush's homepage of today, Tuesday, November 14th. Observe how Rush is attempting to openly mock Rev. Jackson and Andrew Young for demonstrating emotion at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. As I'm sure 99.999% of Americans are aware, both men were with King at the moment he was shot dead with a high powered rifle to the throat. For some reason, Rush views this as the cue for hilarity to ensue.
While I am tempted to ignore the wanton, pathetic idiocy of right wing clods, I don't think it's acceptable to allow blatant, open racism (and deriding any person for showing emotion over King's assassination, let alone those who were among his most trusted friends, is surely an expression of racism) to sit unchallenged. On the heels of his derisive comments about Michael J. Fox, Rush seems to be daring the world to continue to shine the harshness of it's spotlight at him. So be it.
Please join me in contacting media watchdogs like MMFA in alerting them to this hateful offense, so that they may give the story it's due, and perhaps draw more attention to it.
I'm not going to dignify Rush's violation of decency with a long diary. Or even a short, cogent diary (my 8-week old son is not much help in this regard). I just thought that he shouldn't get away with trying to sneak this one by unnoticed. I guess that means I'm some kind of starry-eyed idealist-ass chump.
