In her most recent column in American Hunter magazine (unfortunately not yet posted to the NRA's website, they still have the October column):

the President of the National Rifle Association attacks Nancy Pelosi not only for her dismal anti-second amendment record, but also because she apparently opposes the current government's efforts to strip away our constitutional rights. President Fromer states that Representative Pelosi "opposes programs our government uses to track down terrorists and stop their attacks". And, before her concluding paragraphs exhorting NRA members to vote for freedom and for "the vision our Founding Fathers had when they risked their lives, their futures and their sacred honor to create the greatest, freest country in the world", she states that "Pelosi and her fellow extremists, who are hoping to take control, oppose our national security efforts. . . ."
Apparently, the NRA's President (and whomever on the board of directors let this column be published) feels that freedom is promoted by a President who believes that he need not be bound by any restraints that the legislature may place on his power and that he is free to spy on whomever he wants, and who characterizes anyone who criticizes his policies as a supporter of terrorism. This idea of freedom apparently includes a legislature that happily grants the Executive branch the authority to identify and detain "enemy combatants" with little or no oversight. It appears that, if anyone is labeled as an "enemy combatant", their second amendment rights are meaningless, and that's just fine with the NRA leadership.
While the legislature and the President have been busy making a show before the elections passing various laws in support of gun rights (and, sadly, Democratic leaders have obligingly made asses of themselves opposing these laws), gun owners would do well to remember how the current government has actually responded in protecting the second amendment. Just a year ago, when citizens in New Orleans were being forced to give up their firearms, the supposedly pro-second amendment federal government sat by and did NOTHING to stop it. Yes, the same President and Republican-led legislature that brought the government to a screeching halt to save the body of a single brain-dead Florida woman did not even take it out of cruise control when the minions of tyranny were taking firearms from United States citizens at gunpoint. When gun owners most needed their weapons to defend themselves, THIS President and THIS legislature let those guns be taken away.

President Fromer and the rest of the NRA are correct in advising voters to "Vote Freedom First". However, in this election, that does not mean simply voting against any potential ally of Representative Pelosi or Senator Schumer, as the NRA suggests. Truly voting for freedom means getting the current crop of fascists and their appeasers out of our government. Hopefully, they can be replaced with leaders who actually believe that our constitutional rights should not be sacrificed in the interests of political expediency.
