I don't know about you, but I found it very odd and quite disturbing listening to President Bush last talking about hunting down our enemies and killing them all over the world. I know he is having a hard time getting support for the war, but this is Christmas, hardly a time to be discussing hunting down and killing our enemies, when Jesus advocated turning the cheek.
I know we are in war and that war involves killing, it was just unseemly to see the President at Christmastime advocating killing. I kept thinking this is not what the season was about. This is certainly not something that you would have ever heard come out of Jesus' mouth.
I began to look about my home and realized that although my home was decorated for the season, Jesus was not a prominent aspect of the decor. So, in the middle of the speech, I got up, and took my nativity scene and moved it from the corner of the family room to the center of it. I wanted to make sure that every day, especially at this time of the year, that I think about Jesus and why I believe what I believe.
Can someone please move the nativity scene at the White House into the center of the Oval Office? That may help the President dwell more on the reason for the season and less on war and killing.
