  •  Hollow point bullets (8+ / 0-)

I remember not long ago Remington came out with a jacketed bullet called the Talon. It had a hollow point with slits running down the sides of the bullet so when it penetrated it peeled into several razor sharp pieces inside whatever poor 'item' it hit. So the ER docs were getting these shooting victims in and when they started digging out the pieces they would get their fingers sliced. There was such an out roar the gubnit outlawed them. I have three brothers. The oldest is a diehard Dem. The next just happens to be an ER Doc and a repub. The next is a batshit crazy, exteme rightwinger, arsenal owner who was beyond pissed when the Talon was "outlawed".

It was a thing of beauty watching my repub Doc brother take down my crazy brother when this issue came up....

BTW, we all grew up on a farm and hunted and shot guns often. My repub Doc brother has nothing good to say about our gun culture because of all the carnage he has personally tended to...

    •  Yah. The talons obtained cult stature. But I (0+ / 0-)

really didn't know anyone who actually owned any.

There were a lot of war stories about them....sort of the Robert Shaw "Jaws" retelling of the Indianapolis.

      •  My brother owned (0+ / 0-)

some - .45s. We shot some 2x4s and a 5gal bucket of water. They did just what they were supposed to - fragment into a bunch of pieces. Wicked bastards......

      •  Both Sides Used Feigned Outrage And Bullshit PR (0+ / 0-)

During that period, I felt like there might be actual "logrolling" going on in the background where the gun control crowd and NRA would synchronize their bullshit to maximize the cash haul for both sides before heading out to the country club for a round of golf.

Here's a video of a different bullet. Glaser Safety Slugs are plastic bullet full of metal beads that will disintegrate after hitting sheetrock/dry wall, so they are safer.  However you do NOT want to have one of those explode in your frontal cortex.

    •  I thought doctors used some kind of tongs? (0+ / 0-)

Why enlarge a wound cavity with a hand when a tool will do it?

      •  You can't feel the (0+ / 0-)

thing your looking for with a tong. I wreaked my motorcycle once and had gravel ground deep into my arm. The ER doc numbed my arm up and started picking. When he had to go deeper he made a couple slits and had his fingers wallowing around way inside my arm picking out pieces of gravel.
