Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 0630 am Eastern time. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads
Click on the MOT - Morning Open Thread ♥ if you'd like us to show up in your stream. Go ahead. Do it. Don't just sit there. Make yourself feel good.
Well, its been many years now but its time for the Helmsman to lay down the helm and assume a more advisory role in the proceedings. Its been the Toads Wild Ride for years and years but its finally time to reclaim my Wednesday evenings again.
Heres the earliest post in the archives 7 years ago

but me and Mot go back a lot further than that. When i started dispensing wisdom and brightening people's day here perhaps in 2008 it was run by JaxDem and there were others but she left and then it all came down to eeff and me. I was doing 3 days a week but they were lame. I was doing Stream Of Consciousness then, not Zydeco, so it was just whatever lame thoughts i had in the AM, which are usually plentiful. I deleted all those diaries at the request of my biographers because they were clogging up the archives.
Then i started doing On This Date diaries but they were lame too. I deleted those too. Finally I bailed and after a while of valiantly doing it every day, eeff bailed too.
And there it lay, moribund, supine, apparently finished off or so I thought. I should have pounded a stake in its heart but I was busy with the tremendous effort of a monthly SMHRB column and it must have slipped my mind.
And then came........Joy!! Yes, the one with the Fishes. Through a clever combination of appealing to my patriotism and community spirit, and also extortion concerning my dog, she managed to sign me up for a weekly post which i decided to make about Zydeco. And here ive toiled, lo these many years, singing humble spirituals and spouting earthy homilies, harvesting the grapes of the vine that feeds our wisdom and tickles our fancy.
And here i am at last, steering the Thursday Zydeco MOT post into Snug Harbor at last. I leave you in the good hands of....er...whoever else does it. Its time for me to fade away, as old soldiers always do. But remember!---old soldiers never die!! ( they just smell that way naturally) So fear not, Old MOTonians, i shall always be here for you to give comforting, relevant advice, stern caveats and pithy evaluations. You can't get rid of me, there's still the thing about the dog.
A little more Zydeco before I go, some of my favorite people doing some of my favorite songs.
