In all the discussions of Chained CPI and the President's inclusion of it in his budget proposal, the main defense seems to be centered on two points.
The main defenses are:
1) It will never get passed so stop worrying
2) (Even though it'll never get passed) It's acceptable as an exchange for all the other delicious progressive goodies in the budget (which other than Universal Pre-K are never spelled out mind you).
Occasionally 'protections for the most vulnerable' are mentioned but again, never elaborated upon. Of course, if Social Security benefits weren't being cut, there would be no need for such 'protections'.
