The Tweet link on diaries is broken.

I've posted to the help desk and I've also emailed support. No response from either. Although it is easily fixed (escape it?), I don't expect it fixed immediately, but a short reply saying you're on it would be nice. Just something so people aren't left thinking they're just spitting in the wind.

Perry, Gingrich lose lawsuit to get on Virginia primary ballot
A federal judge denied a request Friday to add four presidential candidates to Virginia’s Republican primary ballot.

U.S. District Judge John A. Gibney Jr. indicated he thought a provision requiring candidates to only use state residents to gather signatures was unconstitutional, but none of the candidates had collected the required 10,000 regardless.

A federal judge has ruled against four GOP presidential candidates seeking a spot on Virginia's March 6 primary ballot: Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman.

Those four had sued the state's board of elections because they were left off Virginia's ballot.

Virginia requires candidates to obtain 10,000 signatures from registered voters in the state, with at least 400 signatures coming from each of the commonwealth's 11 congressional districts.

On Tuesday I noticed Romney describe Obama as a Communist and wondered if anyone would notice. Mr Krugman did and decided he had something to say about it in his NYT OP-ED, The Post-truth Campaign

Suppose that President Obama were to say the following: "Mitt Romney believes that corporations are people, and he believes that only corporations and the wealthy should have any rights. He wants to reduce middle-class Americans to serfs, forced to accept whatever wages corporations choose to pay, no matter how low."

Actually, some times I'm not sure if there isn't more truth to that statement than anyone would care to admitt, but let us get back to Krugman..

State Rep. Bob Nicholas accused of beating son
State Rep. Bob Nicholas, R-Cheyenne, faces a felony charge of abusing a disabled adult in Florida following a Nov. 23 arrest.

The document indicates that multiple witnesses outside of a restaurant saw Nicholas hit his son repeatedly with a closed fist, push him onto the sidewalk and then kick him more than five times.

A sergeant reported a small blood stain on a bedspread in the room and observed that the victim had redness and welts on his neck and a foot-sized abrasion to the skin around his left ribcage that appeared to have a shoelace pattern to it, the report says.

Nicholas explained his behavior by saying his son, who has a condition similar to autism, was being combative during lunch, and that he needed “corporal punishment.” He has no intentions of resigning. “I don’t think I committed a crime, so why would I?” he said.

President Obama addressed reporters from the Whitehouse press room last night in what has to be the clearest language he has yet employed to express his position on the debt ceiling negotiations.

Clearly exasperated, Obama let in to the politically motivated obstructionist Republicans as he has never before. Although he dislikes laying blame, and states so again in the video, he clearly laid the issue at the feet of the GOP and their enablers.

Speaking up for the 'working stiffs' and 'ordinary folks', he confronted those causing the issue for "..being more worried about what some funder says, some talk radio show host says or some columnist says. Or what pledge we signed, back when we were trying to run or worried about having a primary fight."

He really nailed it. Video and transcript below the fold.

Shares in News Corp shares plummeting, but nowhere more so than on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), where News Corp shares are taking a daily beating as the phone hacking scandal continues to damage the company's image.

On Monday Morning trading, the Australian Stock Exchange is listing news Corp shares down 5.69% per cent @ A$13.93, on top of the shares having lost more than 11% last week. (UPDATE: shares were down more than 7% throughout the day, but ended down 4.1%)

And news from Down Under is that the event is effecting another News Corp acquisition deal in the works, the $2+ billion deal for Foxtel to take over it's rival, Austar, a pay-tv firm.

News Corp shares slide as hacking scandal deepens

News Corp's (NWS.AX) Australian shares sank to a two-year low on Monday as the UK phone hacking scandal fallout worsened, raising concerns that a $2 billion bid for an Australian pay-tv firm involving News Corp could be derailed by political intervention.

Investors sent News Corp shares down as much as 7 percent in heavy volume after Rebekah Brooks, the former head of the company's UK paper business, was arrested on Sunday and top policeman Paul Stephenson quit over the scandal.

Shares in a News Corp takeover target, pay-tv firm Austar (AUN.AX), also fell on worries the deal may not proceed after the furor in Britain forced News to drop a $12 billion plan to buy all of highly profitable broadcaster BSkyB (BSY.L).

Austar has agreed to a $2 billion-plus takeover offer from its bigger rival Foxtel, which is owned by News Corp's (NWSA.O) News Ltd division, billionaire James Packer's Consolidated Media Holdings (CMJ.AX), and telecoms firm Telstra (TLS.AX).

The Australian Green Party is calling for a review of media ownership regulations, but the government has refused to consider action.

Federal Government dismisses need for overhaul of media laws
AUSTRALIA'S media laws and privacy protections do not need a review, the Federal Government has declared.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said calls for tighter regulation and stricter ownership limits, which were sparked by ethical and criminal breaches in Britain, would not be pursued.

He said the Federal Government was not concerned because there was no evidence of similar problems here.

Murdoch's News Ltd controls close to three-quarters of the Australian newspaper industry and Murdoch owns 150 newspapers across Australia.
