And here it is.....

"There are world organizations for trade, health, the environment, telecoms, food. There are two black holes in world governance: finance, with its bursting bubbles, and migration." - WTO head Pascal Lamy.

The newest smear campaign from the McCain out of control campaign is to call Barack Obama a socialist. They claim his sound bite to "redistribute" wealth makes him a marxist. This, of course, is not true and, of course, they know that but they feel if they can scare you enough maybe, just maybe, you will not vote for him.

The give away is done in the Senate and unfortunately BOTH of our candidates for President have bowed to special interests and supported a pork laden bill. This is a disgrace and it shows that NOTHING WILL CHANGE when they (whoever) gets to the White House. This was their first test. This bill allowed us to see them in action. Consider this bill a "test drive" of sorts.

There have been three distinct political groups in the United States over the last 20-30 years. Yes, I know there are an infinite number of variants to these groups but I put the political thoughts into three groups. There is the America First conservative in the spirit of Ronald Reagan. There is the "New World Order" neo-conservative in the spirit of the first George H.W. Bush and the current crop of neo-cons (Charles Krauthammer, Ben Wattenburg) which espouses distinct foreign engagements and even a sub world order which supersedes the sovereignty of the United States. The third is a "world citizen" which is similar to the last one except it is more from a philanthropic viewpoint versus a "realpolitik" and economic viewpoint.

Unfortunately, the financial debacle we are in today marks the ascendency of the neo-con vision of the one world / one economy which supersedes nations. Thankfully, it may also be the beginning of the end of this thought process.

I am a firm believer in personal accountability and I do think we, the spending and borrowing Americans, have to shoulder a lot of the blame for this financial mess. Yes, NY Wallstreeters were the drug pushers but we played the part of the drug addicts and we took the drug. That is our fault. We cannot say, "They made me buy that house". We bought it. Pure and Simple.

This is where I disagree with James Moore at the Huffington Post. Moore puts forth the theorythat we did not get to participate in the "party" but we are now going to pay for the clean up.

Social Security

by n00161

Imagine if they had been successful in privatizing social security?  I keep thinking about how close we were to a complete meltdown of the retirement system (what little there is)  in the United States. You could see it now:

  1. A quasi Governmental agency is set up to "act independent" and all Social Security is thrown into that business.
  1. Individuals start investing
  1. Excesses begin - like a 125% mortgage, people will be told "I guarantee you 10% annual returns"
  1. People put all there money into these guarantees
  1. 30 years from now, those people start wanting their guaranteed money for retirment
  1. Like a good Ponzi Scheme, there is not enough at pay out.
  1. Government bails it out
  1. Right back to Social Security except a lot more in debt.
  1. Those who did the "guaranteeing" walk away with billions in fees......

In every case, a major event has to occur to identify the final implosion of an a dangerous activity. Some call it "hitting rock bottom" some just say it is simply "the end". But, whatever you call it, every dangerous activity ends as a house of cards ends; a complete collapse. The "republican revolution" which is basically unbrideled capatilism has ended this weekend in one of these rock bottom implosions. The taking over of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is nothing more than the nationalising of the mortgage business in the United States.

A very interesting development as we research the people who are supporting Governor Palin. First we learn that Palin's daughter is pregnant. If it were not for the left bloggers we would not know this until after the election. As I have said, it normally would not be a story except that the Republican right wing and evangelical right, which supports the Republicans, are so quick to tell everyone how to live their lives.

<div>I then learned that Tony Perkins, President of the radical right Family Research Council, issued a statement in support of Sarah Palin.

I want to see the "Hypocrite right" spin their way out of this one.

Any student of business will tell you that selecting the right "talent" is the most critical and important job of any executive. Jack Welch and Bossidy, two titans of business, will tell you they would spend between 1/3 to 1/2 of their time personally interviewing, reviewing and selecting talent. They would coach mentor and be personally involved in what talent is put where in the business. As they rightfully know, they cannot be everywhere so it is talent that matters.  John McCain met his new V.P. once and talked to her, only on the phone, once about being V.P. before he made his choice.

I have listened now for about a month the "uproar" over Barack Obama's middle name. While we know there are racist tendencies concerning his African American heritage, that pales in comparison to the overt racism that the right wing is trying to smear Obama with by constantly discussing his middle name.

In a fairly tight race in Wisconsin, it appears Barack is starting to separate from the pack (that is Hillary). The JS endorsed Barack while I was out of town so I am a little late in getting this onto the Blog but, I think it is instructive to read their endorsement and understand why they decided to go for Barack. They make 4 really good points:

Do you ever get that feeling that you have just witnessed a major event? Last night while watching the Democrat Debates, I had just that feeling. While clearly I am a big Barack supporter, I tried to go into the debate (Which I live blogged here) unbiased and tried to just listen to the tone and see what I could get from the debate. But, there was that "Moment". The "I knew Jack Kennedy, I served with Jack Kennedy, Dan, you are no Jack Kennedy" moment.
