I have a written a story earlier linking the New Yorker article on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi & his party BJP which describes how the PM wants to turn in India into a Hindutva state — www.dailykos.com/…
The Govt recently passed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) & their plan next seems to be to create laws to have a NRC (National Register of Citizens). These two laws pose a serious threat to Muslims (especially the poor ones) in India. These Muslims (most of them) aren’t Muslim Immigrants. They are people who are born in India & whose forefathers for many centuries are Indian.
There are nationwide protests going on around the country currently. Many have been killed in police firing. The worst state has been Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is governed by BJP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who seems to dislike Muslims even more than Narendra Modi. His police have been targeting Muslims in Uttar Pradesh since the Protests started
From Yogita Limaye (of BBC) tweets
In Muzaffarnagar, a woman told us how her home had been vandalised by the police in the dead of the night. Their car, windows, mirrors, electronic appliances, crockery all broken. Jeweller, cash stolen. She says police told her and her family to leave, and that her home would soon become theirs. She says there were also some people in plain clothes with the police. She says #Muslim families are living in terror in #UttarPradesh. Photos from another home in the neighbourhood. They also told us police barged in at night and broke everything. We heard similar stories in every #Muslim locality we went to. #India #UttarPradesh Police have denied the allegations & told the BBC they've recd no such complaints. We also met 3 minors who say they were detained and beaten by the police. Two had their hands broken, and all had wounds on their backs and legs. Most were too scared to be photographed. This mother holds up the bloodied shirt her 14-year-old son was wearing .

Residents say police broke several CCTV cameras in the area before the violence began.
Reuters was unable to independently verify those accounts, but did review CCTV footage from two cameras on shops in the area. In both cases, the footage ends abruptly after a policeman waving a baton is seen trying to hit the cameras.
Here is the video Reuters talks about — of police breaking CCTV cameras in Muslim areas before they harass the Muslims. You can the policeman taking a swing at the Camera before the footage stops.
